Today is Thanksgiving in Canada where my family (parents and siblings)lives. I feel that it is very timely to post this as one of the topics I have been itching to write about..Being grateful.

There are things in life that challenge us or some things may be very different from what we imagine or dream of. Sometimes we question what we have instead of enjoying the blessing given to us. Last weekend, the priest reminded me of one of my recent realizations. People nowadays have this ‘sense of entitlement’ on expecting to have things or to be treated based on their expectations. In reality, nothing gives us this ‘I deserve this’ tag and everything are just blessings. People (yes including me) tend to forget being thankful. Personally, I try to consciously change this and even intentionally associated my most recent birthday to it.

As one of my friends say, if we become more grateful the more we are blessed. While in one of my facebook groups composed of inspiring women, one post gratitude and it’s effects caught my attention. It says that sometimes when we feel lacking, the more we have to give to feel the abundance. Same thing I heard last weekend. And I believe them. Everytime I remind myself to count the blessings, positivity pour in.

As Robert Quillen said “If you count all your assets, you always show a profit.”

Makes sense right. There is always something to be grateful for.

I haven’t celebrate thanksgiving before, but I have some times when we in church just wanted to give thanks to God. So we have our very normal thanksgiving offering to God, by treating other church members. I’m learning to count my blessings too.

In the Philippines, we do not really celebrate Thanksgiving Day. But true, every day is a day of thanks 🙂

While most people dwell on the past, the truth is that there is so much to be grateful for. I refer to dwelling in the past as getting stuck in negativities that some people fail to see the good things in life. Having an attitude of gratification is something I have always emphasized in coaching sessions and even in my writings. I am glad to see you practice it. It makes your life so much easier and more beautiful.

I agree with the ‘sense of entitlement’ feel. I encounter this daily with people and even in social media. This is just sad. And I try to always remind myself that I am not entitled, but blessed. Blessed to have experienced great opportunities every day.

Life is filled with things that we can really be thankful for. We just have to remember that waking up every day is already something to be grateful for.

Happy Thanksgiving Day to you and your family. I agree with you – there is always something to be grateful for. That is one of my life mantras and I try to be more appreciative and grateful rather than the opposite. I believe that when we count our blessings, we live a happier life and a more content one at that. Do you celebrate thanksgiving day in Canada same with how they do it in the US? Turkey and all?

Fully agree with you on the point that actually everything are blessings! Even the fact that we are able to wake up every morning is already the greatest blessing itself! I wonder just where have we gone wrong (education? parenting?) to have nurtured a strawberry/durian generation with a warped sense of self-entitlement. It’s really high time we throw all our ‘i deserve this’ tags out the window and start showing gratitude when it’s due.

Love so much positivety in the post. I think life offers a lot, sometimes good and sometimes tough challenges. Amidst all this and all, we should always take a pause and think about how much we are blessed with.

Thanks for your meaningful reminder. Truly I appreciate posts like this with uplifting messages. And I like what you’ve imparted towards the end that when you feel like lacking, the more you have to give yo feel the abundance. If most of us can do that, it will really be a better world to live. Have a happy holidays!

As the saying goes, “There’s always something to be grateful for”. Big or small blessings we must always be grateful. A grateful heart receives more. And it reflects positivity and can transpire to others to be thankful too. Happy thanksgiving! 🙂

Oh this rings so true. People come across like they are entitled to certain things just because. It’s very sad, I’ve never felt like I should have or be treated a certain way for just existing. I think that the things we have experienced are blessings to us a individuals and we should look upon our past and present and be grateful for everything that is in front of us or for the amazing things that have happened in the past.
